In 1997, Wayne Hotelling ran and bicycled more than 400 miles across New York State to raise awareness about what people with disabilities can achieve – if they only are given a chance. Accompanied by his wife, Elaine, Wayne named his trek “Laurel Run” in honor of his oldest daughter, who has Down syndrome.
Laurel Run remains an annual event, with hundreds of people coming together each July to show their support for people with disabling conditions. Money raised through Laurel Run provides enhanced employment and work training opportunities for adults with disabilities, allowing them to become productive members of society and enabling them to experience the pride and satisfaction that come from earning real wages for performing meaningful work.
You too can support this effort by making a financial contribution to Laurel Run (click here), or by creating your own Laurel Run web page (click here), and soliciting donations from your family, friends and co-workers.
